NCWSA Celebrates 120 years

Congratulations on a lovely celebration of NCWSA 120 years, at the Adelaide Pavillion today. SI Adelaide has been an affiliated member since 1950.

Our club records show “In an important move, in 1950, the Adelaide club affiliated with the National Council of Women and supported this organization in its advocacy for women. In 1952 the Soroptimists aided the Council in its fight in a proposed reduction of the basic wage for women from 70 to 65% of men’s wage.”

A day to pay tribute to the tireless work of current President Fiona Dorman and to honour those who have gone before us and several long term members. Years of advocacy around issues relevant
to women, will continue....Equal Pay being one of the most important. Who knew we would still be fighting for this in 2022?

As it was such a beautiful day I wandered through Veale Gardens to look at our Soroptimist tree from our Centenary in 2021.

Took a few moments to enjoy the sunshine and reflect on the work still to be done.
